Jarred Cosart Speaks About the Status of His Elbow

Jarred Cosart has been sidelined with an elbow injury since he left a late June start after pitching just 2/3 of an inning. Eventually diagnosed as a mere strain that would heal with physical therapy, the Phillies organization shut down Cosart for the season to avoid a strenuous work load and allow the 20-year-old right-hander the opportunity to heal fully and avoid further aggravation of the ligaments in his elbow.

As his baseball activities wrapped up in Clearwater, Florida this month, where Cosart had been doing his therapy and throwing sessions, Cosart was assigned to return to the Lakewood BlueClaws and join his teammates for their playoff push, as they attempt to repeat as South Atlantic League champions.

With the BlueClaws this season, Cosart went 7-3 with a 3.79 ERA and 77 strike outs in 71 1/3 innings pitched. Cosart's sick fastball (often measured at 97 MPH) and exceptional command got him recognized recently as the #2 prospect in the entire Phillies minor league system, in a survey of minor league experts conducted by the Reading Eagle.

I had the opportunity to speak with Jarred over the weekend about his status, what activities he's doing to stay healthy and what he'll be working on over the off-season. Check out the media player below to listen to the full interview.

Harry Kalas Phorever...

Legendary broadcaster Harry Kalas passed away today. Harry collapsed while preparing to call today's game against the Washington Nationals. So many phans will feel as though we've lost a member of our own families. I feel as though I've lost a part of myself, but Harry enhanced my love of the great sport we call baseball and I will always carry that love, and Harry, in my heart. I've stated on this page before that I consider Harry more of a Phillie than anyone who wears the uniform as an active member of the roster. Harry Kalas was a Phillie. Moreso, Harry Kalas was the Phillies. Please share your thoughts and memories of Harry in the comments section, or send them to PhoulBallz (at) verizon (dot) net.

Ryan Madson is acting questionable

I've seen similar types of "poking fun" entries on other Phillies blogs. When this picture came across my desk today, I figured, "Why not...?" Ryan Madson was out on the town (Manayunk) over the weekend and was photographed acting pretty with a purse slung over his shoulder and being chummy with a friend of mine. Can I really call him a friend, if he's actually my friends' friend , and I only prank called him once? Sure, why the heck not?!
